Chinese state media on Friday (December 20) released a panoramic picture showing the rover's landing area on the moon, one week after the country's first probe landed successfully. China landed an unmanned spacecraft on the moon on Saturday (December 14), and a moon buggy, or rover, named "Jade rabbit" rolled onto the surface of the moon, state media said. The State Administration for Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense said that Chang'e 3 has started its scientific operation on the moon's surface since its landing, China's state television CCTV reported. Chief designer of the Chang'e 3 probing system said that the lander-mounted camera took 60 pictures from three different angles. Scientists then pieced them together to form the panoramic picture.
