After working for 30 straight hours, 24-year-old copywriter Mita Duran slipped into a coma and died shortly after. Duran was employed at the Young and Rubicam advertising agency in Jakarta, which is owned by Ogilvy and Mather. She’d often tweeted about her job’s punishing hours, making comments about the possibility of just moving her bed into the office. On Tumblr she sent out a plea for someone to take her out for drinks and some laughs. Shortly before she collapsed, Duran posted, "30 hours of work and still going strooong.” Her father was the next to post from one of her social media accounts, alerting people that she was in a coma. Hours later, an employee of his shared the sad news that the young woman hadn’t survived. To keep up with the demanding hours of her job, she had reportedly taken to chugging copious amounts of the Indonesian version of Red Bull. Reports have suggested that the energy drink was a contributing factor to her death. The ad agency issued a statement of condolences and closed the office for a day so her coworkers could mourn the loss.
