The iPhone 5 was available in 31 countries within a week after it was launched vs. the 5s being available in 62 countries six weeks after launch. Also the iPhone 5s was shipping in China in the first wave but the 5 was not available until almost three months after its first availability. The iPhone 5s’ lead-times have been running either a bit ahead of the 5 or just a little behind. Currently the 5s is at 1-3 days at 11 weeks post-launch vs. the 5 had gone to one day shipment at 11 weeks but had been at 2-4 days at 10 ½ weeks. Eight U.S. web giants have joined hands to start a public campaign for new limits on how governments collect user information amid concerns of growing online surveillance. The companies -- Google Inc, Microsoft Corp, Apple Inc, Facebook Inc, Twitter, LinkedIn Corp, Yahoo Inc and AOL Inc -- issued an open letter to U.S. "The security of users' data is critical, which is why we've invested so much in encryption and fight for transparency around government requests for information," Google CEO Larry Page was quoted on the website. Apple wants to "demystify code" by offering free progamming classes geared toward kids and teens. Announced on Sunday, the one-hour sessions will take place at Apple's US retail stores on Thursday, December 11. The free classes are designed as an introduction to computer science for the younger crowd, promising to teach them the basics of programming. The training is part of Apple's contribution to Computer Science Education Week's Hour of Code , a global initiative aimed at teaching code to kids and people of all ages.
