A thriller-stroke-whodunnit that will burn into your mind, Incendies is a twisty-turny adaptation of a stage play that carries two siblings into their dead mother's dark past. It's the work of Canadian director Denis Villeneuve, a man who, on this evidence, has a big future on both side of the border. It's not always easy to watch - hey, the movie charts Lebanon's seriously violent past - but it's never less than compelling. "The story is quite violent," Villeneuve explained when Empire met him. "I removed some of the violence but I tried to portray it as ugly as possible." He talked to us about tackling the tough material, the film's reception in the Middle East and the powerful influence of Stanley Kubrick. http://www.empireonline.com/interviews/interview.asp?IID=1300
